Does the Robotow fit?

With a pant on the nose wheel, the Robotow does not fit.

No, it does not fit.

Does not fit with the pant on. The Robotow drives the nose tire with a knurled drum, so the drum has to touch the tire, and a pant or fairing on the nose wheel is in the way. If the nose pant comes off, it may fit. Find your airplane on the fit list: it asks about the pant for each model.

Why

The Robotow drives the nose tire with a knurled drum. The drum has to press on the tire itself, and a pant or fairing around the nose wheel sits in the way. That makes the answer the same on every airplane flying with its nose pant on: it does not fit.

If the nose pant comes off, it may fit. From there the answer depends on your nose gear and which adapter it takes.

What to photograph

  • With the nose pant off, the nose gear straight on from the front.
  • The same nose gear from the side, camera at axle height.
  • The side of the nose tire, where the size is printed.

What to do instead

Start by deciding whether the nose pant stays on. If you fly a Cessna 150, 172, fixed-gear 182 or 206, the Cessna 1 adapter page shows how it fits with the nose pant off. Cherokee owners, see the Piper 2 adapter page.

Warrior, Archer and Dakota owners, start with that answer. Cardinal owners, read the 177 answer. The Cirrus SR series is a separate case: there is no adapter for it, pant or no pant.

The airplanes this answer covers

  • Aircraft with wheel pants or a nose fairing on: The drive drum has to touch the nose tire. If the pants come off, it may fit.

What fits: Cessna 172, 182 and 206

Questions pilots ask

Does a nose wheel fairing count as a pant?

Yes. Anything that covers the nose tire keeps the drum from touching it, so the answer is the same: with it on, the Robotow does not fit.

How do I find my adapter once the nose pant is off?

Look your airplane up on the fit list. If it says Fits, it shows the adapter. If it says Confirm with us, send the two photos and we will tell you.
